Songs

(under construction)

Songs are VocaDB's main data type, along with albums and artists.

This page is aimed to help with adding songs to the database, and to explain how each data field works and how it should be used.

If you're unsure if the song should be added in the first place, please read the content policy for songs.

Song entry - Submitting

https://vocadb.net/Song/Create

A song entry needs at least one artist (with an artist entry) and a name. If the artist entry page doesn't already exist, you will need to use the "Add an artist" page to create an entry. You can also do this after the song has been created, as long as the song entry has some other artist added (vocaloid for example).

If the song has no name available: (TODO)

If the song has no artists (composer/voice synth) available: (TODO)

After submitting the song, you can add more detailed information to the song, such as the lyrics. Some of the information is automatically added based on the PV links (publish date for example).

tab: Basic info

Original language

The language of the official default name for this entry. Usually this is the one that's used most commonly in official sources.

This field is automatically set, based on which title field was used in the song submit -page.

Primary name (in one or more languages)

If the original name is non-English (for example Japanese), or if the language of the name is unknown, input that into the Non-English name field. If known, input the romanized name as well. If the official name of the entry is in English, or there is a known English translation, input that into the English name field.

Note that you do not need to copy the missing names from others. The system will substitute those when needed. For example, lacking a romanized name, the system will automatically use English.

Before adding the romanizations and translations, read Romanization guidelines.

Aliases

Aliases are additional, commonly used names for an entry. Most of the time they are not translations of the primary name, although well-known translations can be added as aliases. Aliases can be in language.

For cover songs and other derived works, copying the aliases from the original entry is not necessary (* 1)(*1).

Description

(GitHub-flavored Markdown is supported for formatting)

Song type

For derived works (remix/cover/remaster/etc.) make sure to add a link to the original version (this field will be invisible if the song type is "original")

Duration

Duration of the song. If song has video/music embeds added, their lengths must match, or be within a few seconds (unrelated intros are an exception). If different PVs have different song lengths, a new entry needs to be created.

BPM

TODO

Release event

Release event for the song, if it exists. For common holidays, such as Christmas, it's better to use the tag instead. If the song is included in an album, and the album has a release event, the album release event should not be added to the song entry.

Publish date

The earliest publish date of the song.

Status

tab: Artists

In this tab, you can add and delete artists that have participated in the song. Vocaloids, UTAUs and other singing synthesizer voicebanks are added as artists as well. You can also add an artist to the song by creating a custom artist, which adds an artist credit to the song entry as a text (no artist entry is created).

If the song has only one artist (+ vocalists), the roles do not need to be specified. (*2) If the song has multiple artists involved:

If one of the artists has a "producer" -role (such as voice manipulator), the roles for other "producer" -artists should be specified as well. (*3)

tab: Media

Verified artists can use VocaDB for hosting songs they have made. Supported formats: .mp3. Maximum file size is 20MB. PV type will automatically be "original".

tab: Lyrics

Romanization guidelines do not apply to lyrics. (*4)
