Events

Examples of release events include physical events such as The Voc@loid M@ster and Comiket, and virtual events such as APOLLO and the character birthdays.

Release events almost always have a date. Some events may last multiple days. In that case, the event date on VocaDB is generally the first day of the event.

Albums and songs can be connected to a release event. This connection indicates that the album or song was released during or for that event. For physical events this generally means that the album was first distributed at that event, so the release event date matches album release date.

For virtual events it's possible that the release date doesn't match exactly with the event date, but usually it's close. For example, for character birthdays the albums might be released a week ahead. In this case it's still acceptable to connect the album or song to the release event, as long as the artist or publisher officially states that the album or song was released for that event. When the dates do not match, release event date on VocaDB should still be the date of the actual event, not the release date of the album/song.

In case of an album song, connecting both the album and song to the same event is generally redundant and should be avoided.

Sometimes a previously released album or song might be featured for an event at a later date. In this case the entry should generally not be connected to the event on VocaDB.

For concert setlists using song lists (marked as a concert setlist) is still the recommended method.

When adding an event to a song or album, you can select an existing event, or create a new event from the entry edit page. In case of a new event, the system tries to make an intelligent guess regarding the event series. If no series is found, the event is created as a standalone event, which can later be connected to a series if needed. Whenever creating a new event from the entry edit page, please make sure that the series is selected correctly.

Release event categories

  • Album release fair (AKA. doujin fair): Special category for conventions with the primary intention of selling albums. This includes Comiket, The Voc@loid M@ster and M3.
  • Character anniversary: Character birthdays (release dates).
  • Club: DJ party events.
  • Concert: Music concerts such as Magical Mirai.
  • Contest: For example song contests.
  • Convention: Category for generic conventions such as Nico Nico Chokaigi.

Events versus tags

In the past, event tags were used to indicate events related to songs, because only albums could be connected to events. The benefit of being able to connect also songs to events is that in some cases (mostly for virtual events such as character birthdays), the event includes both albums and individual songs.

Release events also have an associated date which can be used for sorting or filtering.

Currently, release events cannot be translated, but this should be implemented in the future.
